- Piston and Rings

- The piston is the
- part of the engine
- that moves up and
- down in the
- cylinder to
- compress the fuel
- mixture, and
- transfer the energy
- to the crankshaft,
- once the engine has
- fired. It is
- cylindrical, to fit
- in the cylinder
- tightly, so that
- gases cannot escape
- down its side and
- reduce its
- efficiency. The
- piston rings are in
- place to ensure
- that the fit is as
- tight as possible.
- The wrist pin fits
- the piston to the
- connecting rods,
- which create the
- link to the
- crankshaft.
